2018 Reading Goals!

So after a fantastic year of reading in 2017 I have finally decided on my reading goals for 2018. I only have 2 goals for 2017 but they are BIG ones. Goal number one is to read 150 books! I usually only challenge myself to read 100 books but I have increased it to 150 because of goal number two. Goal number two is to read all the books on the BBC 6 book challenge which can be found here . This challenge states that the BBC believes that people have only read 6 books on this list. There are 100 books on the list. I have already read half the books on this list and I don't plan on reading the bible so there is a total of 49 books remaining but since 2 of the listed books are series it really equates to 57 books. There are a lot of new releases I am looking forward to next year hence why I upped my reading challenge to 150 as I did not want my reading list to just be books on the BBC list. So that's it! My reading goals for 2018! What are your goals?

End of Year Book Tag!

1. Are there any books you started this year that you need to finish? I definitely need to finish Renegades by Marissa Myer as I am only 150 pages into it and there are not that many days left until the end of the year. I am finding this book slow going for some reason. 2. Do you have an autumnal book to transition into the end of the year? Since I live in Australia and it is summer at the end of the year this question should probably be do you have a spring book and since I am doing this tag really late it probably isn't even relevant any more so I am just going to say maybe a Kasie West book. I feel they are good summer time books to read. 3. Is there any new release that you are waiting for? With how late I am doing this tag I don't think there are any books coming out in the next week or so at least not that I am aware of. 4. What are 3 books you want to read before the end of the year? I want to read A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas, Lucky in Love by

The Last Days Of Us - Beck Nicholas Review

Image
A road trip across Australia with friends to see a band, umm yes please sign me up! Sounds like the perfect light summer read. A girl trying to get back together with her ex who is now dating her best friend, this should be interesting and fun is what I thought.  I was honestly expecting a fun quick summer beach read but this book was so much more! Zoey is trying to get her life back together after going off the rails right after losing her brother and she thinks the perfect way to do this is by getting back together with her ex whilst on a road trip to see her favourite band. Things start to get complicated when her ex's cousins join and she finds herself attracted to the dark and moody Luc. While there is a lot of fun times in this book, it is deep and actually quite heartbreaking. I definitely found myself crying. I really felt for Zoey, trying to overcome her sadness and move past her mistakes. Realising that life is short and you should make the most of every day.

Someone To Love - Melissa De La Cruz Review

Image
This book had been sitting on my Goodreads TBR for quite a while and I couldn't wait to get my hands on a copy. Some of my favourite books have been written by Melissa De La Cruz and while not all of her books are 5 stars for me I still plan on reading all her books. I received an advanced readers copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to the lovely people at HQ who sent me a copy to review. I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars. I honestly had no idea what this book was about before I started, just that it was written by Melissa De La Cruz and that I had to read it. Olivia is a politician's daughter who struggles with bulimia, self doubt and her parents high expectations. She believes she is a social outcast with only two friends but things soon change when she manages to get herself invited to the party of the year in the hopes of meeting her art idol but instead catches the eye of the hottest guy in school. Things are going great for Liv f

When Dimple Met Rishi - Sandhya Menon Review

Image
This was actually the cutest story and had me laughing throughout the whole book. Note to anyone listening to the audiobook. Do not listen on public transport because you won't be able to help grinning like a fool and laughing out loud. This novel follows Dimple, whose parent's goal in life is to marry her off to the Ideal Indian Husband but all Dimple is interested in is starting school at Stanford and hoping that her parents will let her attend a summer program for web developing. Imagine her surprise when they agree. Rishi, a hopeless romantic, can't wait to have a love like his parents. Rishi believes in tradition and can't wait till his parents arrange his marriage for him. So when his parents tell him that his potential future wife will be attending a summer program for web developing, Rishi is all in! From Dimple and Rishi's first meeting I knew that I would love this book so much! Not only is it hilarious but it is a fun quick read. Dimple an

Grimms Manga Tales - Kei Ishiyama Review

Image
I received an arc of this from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This Manga is a collection of Grimm's Fairy tales with a twist. While I love all things fairy tales I just couldn't get into this one like I wanted. I felt all the stories were just too short. If you are looking for a quick read then this is for you.You can read this entirely in 1 hour.  The illustrations in this are beautiful and detailed, worth buying for that alone.  While I haven't read the original versions of all these tales, the ones I had read, I enjoyed her twist on them. This has inspired me to read the original versions of the stories I hadn't heard before. This book will be available from the 28th November 2017.

The Mindful Way To A Good Night's Sleep - Tzivia Gover Review

Image
I read this book over the span of a week, right before going to bed and I have noticed a slight improvement in my sleeping already. To fully get the benefits of this book, I think you need to constantly work at all the advice given even though some of the advice can be hard to do for some people like me ie. not using any electronics before going to bed. This book is split up into sections going through why getting a good night's sleep is beneficial, understanding your dreams and why we dream and how that affects our sleep to steps on how to actually get a good night's sleep. I really enjoyed the journaling prompts given as well as the step by step guide to meditating. I marked a lot of pages to look back on such as the breathing exercises which I found very helpful to help me in the future. I also thought the sleep/dream quotes scattered throughout this book was a nice touch.

November 2017 TBR and October Reading Wrap-Up

So here we are again at the end of the month and ready to do my next month's TBR. I decided to mix things up this time around and do a reading wrap-up as well. This month I finished reading a total of 12 books. I will leave links to reviews that I have done. The Count of Monte Cristo Manga     5stars Courted - Jennifer Chance (Gowns & Crowns #1)    3 stars Roll the Dice - Wayne Avrashow    4 stars Gemina - Aime Kaufman & Jay Kristoff (The Illuminae Files #2)   4 stars Pride & Prejudice & Mistletoe - Melissa De La Cruz      3 stars Caraval  - Stephanie Garber (Caraval #1)    5 stars The Picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde (this was a reread)    5 stars There's Someone Inside Your House - Stephanie Perkins     3 stars Eliza and her Monsters - Francesca Zappia    4 stars A Court of Thorns and Roses - Sarah J. Maas (A Court of Thorns and Roses #1)   4 stars The Gentleman's Guide to Vice & Virtue - Mackenzie Lee    4 stars The Lightning Thie

Caraval - Stephanie Garber Review

Image
Do you ever love a book so much that after you finish reading it, you immediately want to reread it again...no...just me then. I wasn't even half way through reading this book when I knew that I wanted to reread it so that's exactly what I did. I started off by listening to the audiobook and wow was it amazing! Rebecca Soler that does the recording brings this story to life. She makes every character sound unique and really makes you feel like you are right there in Caraval with the characters. I gave this book 5 stars but I wanted to actually physically read it to see if I would give it the same rating as when I listened to it because the audiobook is just that good! So after rereading it I found that I did love it enough to give it 5 stars but I still found the audiobook to be slightly better than physically reading only because I could not make the story sound as good in my own voice as Rebecca Soler. I will definitely be listening to all her audiobooks which is

Pride & Prejudice & Mistletoe - Melissa De La Cruz Review

Image
When I first saw that this book was coming out I could not wait to get my hands on it! A Pride & Prejudice Christmas retelling by the author who wrote one of my favourite books. Yes please! Then I saw that it was on NetGalley so I requested it, honestly not thinking that it would be sent to me, but somehow the stars aligned, fate was on my side and the lovely people over at Hachette Australia approved my request! Bless them! This modern day Pride & Prejudice retelling is a fun, quick holiday read. I enjoyed that the author gender swapped the characters from the original. Darcy (Pride) is the female and Luke Bennett (Prejudice) is the male. The chemistry between the two was fun to read but I do wish there had been a but more of their banter. While this book is a romance it also focuses on friendship and family and I think that's the epitome of Christmas and was glad that the author included it in this holiday read. While I felt the last half of this book dragged on

Roll The Dice - Wayne Avrashow Review

Image
What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas...unless you're running for office and then nothing stays a secret. Tyler Sloan, rock star, decides to leave his music career behind and run for senator in the state of Nevada. A celebrity running for office...where have I heard that before?! Honestly this book couldn't have come out a more perfect time and having Las Vegas as the backdrop was the ideal setting. Tyler's campaign is fraught with scandals (yes more than one) and the author definitely shines a light on the corruption and what really goes on in politics. I found the book slow to start off with but then it really picked up and I found myself rooting for Tyler and hoping he would win the race and wondering what new hurdle he would have to jump. He is a likeable character who definitely has his flaws but I think that's what made him easy to like. He was relatable. I hope the author writes a second instalment as I would really like to see where Tyler's story

The Count of Monte Cristo Manga Review

Image
I got a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. I was really excited when I saw that there was a manga version of the Count of Monte Christo but also really apprehensive as it is one of my all time favourite books. A book about getting revenge on people who have wronged you - I mean what's not to love! The manga version is only 400 pages which is definitely a whole lot less than the original version but it definitely does not skimp on any major plot points or characters. In fact I did not feel like anything was missing when I read this. I think I even enjoyed it a little bit more than the original because I could read the whole book in one sitting. The story flowed seamlessly, there were no boring bits and the artwork was incredibly beautiful. Can you fall in love with artwork because wow! Each character had their own distinct look so that you can tell who is who just by a glance at the page. I would recommend this version for anyone that is int

October 2017 TBR!

My October TBR is fairly ambitious  at 13 books but I am really excited to read a lot of books to bring my TBR list down. I was down to 92 books but then I added more so now it is over 100 so hopefully I get to most if not all 13 of these books this month. So the first 2 books on my TBR are ARCS from Netgalley: 1. The Count of Monte Christo Manga - Crystal S Chan 2. Roll The Dice - Wayne Avrashaw The next 2 books on my TBR are re-reads: 3. Geekerella - Ashley Poston 4. Picture of Dorian Grey - Oscar Wilde I then have 6 books sitting on my bookshelf that I would like to get to: 5 - 9. Percy Jackson and the Olympians series 10. A Court of Thorns and Roses - Sarah J Maas The next 2 books are books that have been on both my August and September TBR but I have yet to read because I know they will be amazing and I will get through them so quickly and then be depressed I have finished reading them so I have yet to pick them up: 11. Eliza and her Monsters - Fran

Forever & Always - Jasinda Wilder Review

WARNING: This review will have a lot of spoilers. Actually all of the spoilers so best not to read if you don't want to be spoiled . So I haven't done a review for about 2 months, one because I was on holidays and didn't have time and two because I hadn't really read anything that I wanted to review as most of the books that I have been reading lately have been average reads and haven't really inspired me. I was so excited when I started reading Forever & Always as this book started off (started being the operative word here) amazing and I couldn't wait to finish it so I could sit down and write a review telling everyone how much I loved it and how amazing it was. This is the first novel in the Ever trilogy. This book is told in dual perspective from the point of view of Caden and Ever. The pair meet at a summer camp for aspiring artists and spend one afternoon drawing by a lake and sharing secrets. They immediately feel a connection. They don't se

2017 Reading Goals Completed!

So I have officially finished my reading goals for the year and there are still 3 months of the year left!!! My main goal this year was to read 100 books and this was completed back in August but I didn't realise until this month that I had read so many books so yay for me! My other 2 goals were to finish all the books on my bookshelf and to re-read all the Harry Potter books and these were both done in July! So since I have finished all my goals I have decided to add a couple more goals for the last 3 months. I have since bought 5 Percy Jackson books that are currently sitting on my bookshelf that I need to read and there are a few books that I want to reread as well. Picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde Hush Hush - Becca Fitzpatrick Fangirl - Rainbow Rowell Geekerella - Ashley Poston It would be a bonus for me to finish these 9 books but if I don't I won't be too upset as I already completed the goals I had set at the beginning of the year!

Book to Movie Wishlist Tag

Image
I decided to do another book tag as I recently got back from my holiday and have not had time to write out a review so hence another book tag. With the Book to Movie Wishlist tag all you have to do is pick 5 books you wish to be made into movies or TV series and explain why. Simple huh. So here we go: 1. Harry Potter series. Yes I am aware that this is already a movie but how amazing would this be as a TV series!! They could do a season per book. That's 5 seasons of Harry Potter! Who doesn't want that?! I don't feel like I need to explain why I want this as I am sure you all agree that we need more Harry Potter in our lives. 2. Love and Gelato. This would make a fantastic movie. The scenery in this would be worth it to watch but I also just feel like this would play out amazingly on the big screen as while I was reading the book it played out like a movie. The drama, the romance, the scenery, the food...I mean come on the screenplay writes itself. 3.

August 2017 Reading Wrap-Up

This month I read: The Four Legendary Kingdom - Matthew Reilly (Jack West Jnr #4)  4.5 stars Two Cabins, One Lake - Shaye Marlow (Alaskan Romance #1)  3.5 stars Love & Gelato - Jenna Evans Welch   4.5 stars Something In Between - Melissa De La Cruz    5 stars The Au-Pairs - Melissa De La Cruz (The Au-Pairs #1)    4 stars Skinny Dipping - Melissa De La Cruz (The Au-Pairs #2)  3 stars This was definitely not my best reading month but I was travelling most of the month so hopefully next month I will do much better.

September 2017 TBR!

I have no real reason for picking these books to read this month other then the fact that I have decided to read books that have been sitting on my kindle for a long time. All these books except the first 2 I have purchased for free from the kindle store: Illuminae - Aime Kaufman (The Illuminae Files #1) Gemina - Aimie Kaufman (The Illuminae Files #2) Beyond Volume 1 - Kit Rocha (Beyond #1-3) Lisa Emmer Historical Thrillers Volume 1 & 2 - Rob Swigart Forever & Always - Jasinda Wilder (The Ever Trilogy #1) Thursdays At Coconuts - Beth Carter Don't Let Go - Michelle Lynn (The Invisibles #1)

TMI vs TID Tag

Here is The Mortal Instruments versus The Infernal Devices tag: 1. Favourite main character. Clary or Tessa? Tessa because I found Clary to be incredibly whiny. 2. Favourite Herondale. Jace or Will? It's pretty close but Jace. 3. Favourite love triangle. Simon/Clary/Jace or Will/Tess/Jem? Is any love triangle good lol. Will/Tess/Jem since it was more of a love triangle then Simon/Clary/Jace. That ended before it even began. 4. Better Villain. Sebastian or the Magister? Sebastian because he was pure evil. 5. Better Army. The Dark Army or The Clockwork Army? Dark Army but only just. 6. Better first book. City of Bones or Clockwork Angel? Clockwork Angel only because I preferred the series overall. 7. Better female sidekick. Isabelle Lightwood or Cecily Herondale? Isabelle Lightwood 100%. Cecily is hardly in the books. 8. Better setting. The New York Institute or The London Institute? London. Honestly it's one of the reasons why I preferred the Infernal De

Ultimate Harry Potter Tag

So since I am on vacation I thought it best to do a couple of tag posts since I don't have time to read a lot or do any reviews. So here goes the Harry Potter tag: 1. Favourite book? Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I have reread this books more times then I can remember. I remember when I first started reading the series there was only 4 books out so I reread them over and over and over again waiting for the next book and this one in particular I read more than the others because it was packed with so many things happening and it was the longest out of the other 3. 2. Least favourite book? I'm not 100% sure but I think my least favourite book is the Prisoner of Azkaban. Not sure why but I think it's that one. Honestly they are all so good that it's hard to pick. 3. Favourite movie? Ok it seems this is even harder to pick so I guess I will just go with the last one. Deathly Hallows part 2. 4. Least favourite movie? It was Prisoner of Azkaban b

August 2017 TBR!

So since I will be away for most of August and probably will not have time to read so that is why there is not too many books on the list. We shall see if I even manage to read one during August. Something In Between - Melissa De La Cruz The Au Pairs Series - Melissa De La Cruz The Four Legendary Kingdoms - Matthew Reilly (Jack West Jr. #4) Two Cabins, One Lake - Shaye Marlow (Alaskan Romance #1) The Gentleman's Guide To Vice & Virtue - Mackenzie Lee

The Distant Hours - Kate Morton Review

Image
This is the third book I have read by Kate Morton and I have to say that she is definitely one of my favourite authors. This book follows the same format that her other books (that I have read) follow. It's a historical romance mystery where half the book is memories of the past and half the book is set in the present with the protagonist trying to unravel the mystery of the past. The reason that I love Kate Morton's books is because of the way that she writes. Reading the parts of the book that are set in the past are like trying to fight your way through fog, everything is hazy and slow going but you know that when you make it through the clearing everything will be bright and clear and the mysteries that she has weaved through her book will make sense. Her books are extremely detailed and a lot of the chapters are descriptive and normally I would find this annoying but it just works for the stories she creates and it definitely transports you to the past. The Dis

The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up - Marie Kondo

So I initially decided to read this book because I saw a booktuber rave about how great it was and how it changed her life. She threw out half the contents of her house so naturally I was intrigued to read it and see if it would do the same for me. Living minimistically is not a bad way to live. First thing you should know before picking up this book is that the author is a tad eccentric. Read this book with an open mind. She talks to her possessions and encourages you to do so as well so if that is not your thing then maybe stay away from it. I also read the reviews of this book on goodreads before I started it and a lot of people were saying that they thought it was a bunch of nonsense and a few had a lot of laughs while reading it because the author is a little strange. However, if you can look past that then I think this book can be beneficial. You do not need to talk to your possessions if you do not want to though. No one will know. The premise of this book is 'if somet

2017 Reading Goals Update

It's the middle of the year so I thought I would do a reading goals update. My goals for the year were to read 100 books, read all the books on my bookshelf and reread the Harry Potter series. So far I have read 82 books so unless I get into a reading slump in the second half of the year I should achieve this goal. I also only have 4 books left on my bookshelf that I have not read and only one of them is a big book so this goal should be achievable too. I have just started to reread the Harry Potter series and am currently reading book 4 and I am flying through it so I should have them finished by the end of the month or early next month. I am really happy with how my progress is going so far and I will keep up with it and do another update towards the end of the year. Hope everyone else is doing well with their reading goals for this year.

Lord of Shadows - Cassandra Clare Review

Image
This is the second novel in the Dark Artifices series and it was just as good as the first one. I think I've enjoyed this series more than the Mortal Instruments and also the Infernal Devices. There is just something about Emma and the Blackthorn family that has me hooked. I would say that if you are planning on reading this then maybe wait until the third book in the series is released as this book ends in a BIG cliffhanger and the next book isn't going to be released until 2019!!!! I don't even know where to begin describing this book as there is so much happening within the storyline and nothing gets resolved and I have to say that I still do not know where she is going with this series but I think she will weave the 'The Eldest Curses' (another series) she is planning on doing into the mix like she did with the Mortal Instruments and the Infernal Devices. As much as I love the Mortal Instruments series/spinoffs I kind of wish I had waited for her to c

The Names They Gave Us - Emery Lord Review

So I didn't end up giving this book a rating as I am still not sure how I feel about it. Don't get me wrong, I liked it but I'm not sure if I loved it. The story follows Lucy, who has just found out that her mother's breast cancer has come back. Lucy, a pastor's daughter soon starts to lose her faith. Shortly after, her long-term boyfriend suggests that they put their relationship on pause and her mother suggests that instead of going to Church camp for the summer where she has been a long time counsellor that she go to the 'hippie camp' for kids who have been tough times across the lake. This story is about friendship, family and faith and loss. This story is beautiful written and very diverse but there was just something off about it that I can't quite put my finger on. I'm also not 100% sure I liked the ending. It was Ok but I wish there had been more.
