Forever & Always - Jasinda Wilder Review

WARNING: This review will have a lot of spoilers. Actually all of the spoilers so best not to read if you don't want to be spoiled.

So I haven't done a review for about 2 months, one because I was on holidays and didn't have time and two because I hadn't really read anything that I wanted to review as most of the books that I have been reading lately have been average reads and haven't really inspired me.

I was so excited when I started reading Forever & Always as this book started off (started being the operative word here) amazing and I couldn't wait to finish it so I could sit down and write a review telling everyone how much I loved it and how amazing it was. This is the first novel in the Ever trilogy.

This book is told in dual perspective from the point of view of Caden and Ever. The pair meet at a summer camp for aspiring artists and spend one afternoon drawing by a lake and sharing secrets. They immediately feel a connection. They don't see each other again until the end of the camp where they agree to become pen pals and exchange addresses. Most of the rest of the book is them living their separate lives but writing letters to each other so you get to see what they are both up to.

SPOILERS: Do not keep reading if you do not want to be spoiled.

Caden comes home after camp to find that his mother has cancer and not too long after that she passes away. His father mentally checks out so Caden finds himself on his own with no one to turn to but his penpal Ever. The author truly captures the atmosphere and I found myself crying when Caden did. Her writing is truly beautiful.

Ever with her own problems comforts Caden through her letters and a painting as she understands about loss as her mother died a few years before and her father mentally checked out as well.

Not too long after that Caden's father dies of a heart attack (I know right like jeez how much more heartbreak can this guy take) and he moves to live with his grandparents.

Through their letters you get to see the two growing up and sharing everything with each other including their first boyfriends/girlfriends and their jealousy that the other is with someone. This goes on for the next 5 years. They have always kept in touch and told each other everything even if their letters aren't as consistent as they once were.

Caden's roommate at university soon overdoses on drugs and Caden just can't take it anymore. He has seen 3 people die right in front of him and he hops in the car and drives to find Ever.

He finds her painting in an art studio at her campus and their meeting for the first time in 5 years is like magic. They both confess their love for each other and then things get a little raunchy...or a lot raunchy. The book definitely takes a turn.

2 weeks after their meeting he proposes, she says yes, they get hitched, they only invite her twin sister and then not too long after that they get into a car accident and the last chapter is Caden waking up in the hospital and hearing that he has been out of it for 1 week, Ever lost the baby (apparently she was pregnant), can never have kids again and that she is in a coma and will most likely never wake up.

Like woah could this book have any more tragedy in it!!? I honestly didn't know where the author was going with this story but I was so glad there was a trilogy. I couldn't wait to pick up the next book but I had to have a sneaky peek and see if she killed off the main character coz I couldn't have that. I was rooting for this couple. I loved their story. I loved that they shared everything with each other through letters no matter how awkward or heartbreaking it was. I loved that they basically grew up together even though they were apart. I didn't think the author would kill off the main character as the trilogy is called the Ever trilogy but then again she seems to have a thing for tragedy,

So then I find out that book 2 is Caden basically hooking up with her twin sister while she is in a coma and then the sister finding out she is pregnant right before Ever wakes up from the coma. Like what!!! He cheated!! How dare he!! I was rooting for you!! Also what kind of evil twin is this sister!! Also their story started of beautiful and suddenly turned into a soap opera??!! What is happening with this trilogy!

So then naturally I had to read the reviews for book 3 and I find out that the sister runs away coz she can't face Ever and she also has Caden's baby. Ever forgives Caden and her sister like it was nothing. (Umm what the hell?). He sister meets some guy and gets married, decides she doesn't want the baby so she gives it to Ever and Caden and they all live happily ever after?

WHAT THEY HELL KIND OF ENDING/STORY IS THAT?!!!!

I can honestly tell you that I am beyond glad that I read the reviews before buying the next 2 books because I honestly don't know what they hell the author was thinking! Ever should have had her revenge on her evil sister and cheating husband  and not forgiven them without a second thought and her sister definitely didn't deserve to find some great guy to marry.

So in conclusion, I am so disappointment and outraged that a book I was loving and enjoying at the beginning turned out to be such a waste of my time.

I really hope my next review is of a book I absolutely love!
