Aurora Rising - Jay Kristoff & Amie Kaufman (The Aurora Cycle #1)

Jay and Amie have done it again. They have created another sci-fi that I will love and cherish forever. A none too small feat for someone who rarely likes or reads sci-fi.

Aurora Rising follows a group of misfits in the year 2380 on their first space mission.

Tyler Jones is the golden boy squad leader, who the night before he is to pick the squad of his dreams inadvertently finds himself rescuing Aurora (Auri) a girl that has been trapped in interdimensional space in a cryo-sleep for 2 centuries and misses the draft and finds himself stuck with the dregs of the academy.

Making up the sorry excuse for squad 312 is
Scarlett, sarcastic twin sister of Tyler, a sweet talker who is as gorgeous as her brother and has the ex boyfriends to show it.
Cat, tomboy pilot who is definitely not in love with her best friend Tyler.
Zila a genius sociopath who is a little too trigger happy with her stun gun around her squad mates.
Fin, grumpy tech support of alien race with an exosuit to help with his mobility and
Kal the sexy space elf warrior who will murder you with just a glance.

On their first space mission for the academy they find Auri hiding in their spaceship and soon discover that their simple mission has turned into a race to save the galaxy and that Auri might be the key to stopping a war that is years in the making.

Can this group of misfits save the day? Maybe if they could stop fighting with each other. Simple right?!

I loved everything about this except that I read it so soon after it was published as it ends on a cliffhanger and now I have to wait to May 2020 to find out what happens next!

The cast of characters is everything that I could have wished for. I love them all so much especially Kal bless his heart! I also loved that this was told in multiple points of view so you get to see each squad members thoughts and feelings.

This book has everything you could want, romance, adventure, thrills and more sarcasm that you could poke an alien stick at. Can't wait til book 2 comes out! 5 out of 5 stars!
