The Boy Next Story is the second book in the Bookish Boyfriends series. The premise of these books is the main character (usually a female and somehow connected to the main character in the previous story) is set a book to read by the 'magical' English teacher for extra credit and they soon find that their lives follow the path of the character in the novel they are reading. These books are honestly a lot of fun and feature a swoon-worthy romance that will have you adding another bookish boyfriend to your every growing list. This book in particular follows Rory (the younger sister of the previous book's main character) and her struggles coping at her new school Hero High and her heartache with being in love with the boy next door who only seems to have eyes for her sister. Book 2 in the Lady Janies series is a Jane Eyre retelling and is truly wonderful! I thought I loved the first book in the series My Lady Jane  but I think I love this one even more! My Plain Jane follows the life of Jane Eyre and her friend Charlotte Bronte (I know right, it couldn't get any better!) Just like the first book, this book is funny and weird and all kinds of amazing! It also has a surprising modern feel for a book set in the Victorian era just like the last one. If you like Jane Eyre, you will love this book. Think Jane Eyre meets Ghostbusters with a tiny hint of Harry Potter (conveniently located on page 394), Lord of the Rings and the Princess Bride!  Run, don't walk to get you hands on this book!

This novel is a loose retelling of Lady Jane Grey, the 9 days Queen and when I say loose, I mean loose. It was so unique and wonderful and hilarious  and just plain weird at times that you just can't help but fall in love with it. This is nothing like you would expect it to be and really hard to describe without giving away spoilers, but there are bits of history, bits of fantasy, bits of authorial intrusion and  a whole lot of humour. It will honestly have you laughing out loud! Set in the Elizabethan era, the characters have a surprising modern feel. I loved Jane and found her incredibly relateable which is strange considering we have nothing in common except a love for reading. The 3 authors do such a wonderful job not only making the characters likeable but also paint such a vivid picture of the landscape and story that I honestly felt like I had gone on a wonderful adventure in the country with some friends. I loved this book, it was so cute and funny and it also features book boyfriends so what's not to love! The main character Merrilee is an avid reader. She constantly has a book in hand and thinks 'boys are better in books.' (So relatable!) Merrilee, her younger sister Rory and her best friend Eliza are about to start at 'Hero High' (I know right!! The school even has modern-day knights, I mean how could you not love this book!) where she meets a 'magic' English teacher and soon finds herself right in the middle of her own classic book adventure. When I first saw that this book was coming out I could not wait to get my hands on it! A Pride & Prejudice Christmas retelling by the author who wrote one of my favourite books. Yes please! Then I saw that it was on NetGalley so I requested it, honestly not thinking that it would be sent to me, but somehow the stars aligned, fate was on my side and the lovely people over at Hachette Australia approved my request! Bless them! This modern day Pride & Prejudice retelling is a fun, quick holiday read. I enjoyed that the author gender swapped the characters from the original. Darcy (Pride) is the female and Luke Bennett (Prejudice) is the male. The chemistry between the two was fun to read but I do wish there had been a but more of their banter. Since I have really been enjoying reading fairy-tale retellings the past couple of months I decided to download a few more to add to more collection. So here they are in no particular order:    This was a free download on Kindle. It is book 3 in the 'Timeless Fairy Tales' series. I am currently reading book 1 and liking it so far, so hopefully I will enjoy this one as well.   Books 1-5 in 'The Land of Stories' series and A Treasury of Classic Fairy Tales   Beauty and the Beast by Jennifer Donnelly and   The 'Twisted Tale' series by Liz Braswell. I'm not sure when I have time to read all these but I am looking forward to reading them.

This modern Cinderella retelling is the cutest book ever.  I decided to pick this up as I really enjoyed the beauty and the beast retelling that I read last month so I thought I would give another fairy-tale retelling this month a go and I am so glad that I did. The main character Elle is a 'geek' and spends her days bl ogging about an old sci-fi series 'Starfield.' Elle grew up watching the show and still lives and breathes Starfield. The novel opens with her ushering her step-mother and step-sisters out of the house so that she can watch who will be cast in the new Starfield movie remake as she has been looking forward to this since they announced the remake. Cut to teen sensation Darien Freeman, who is freaking out before his first interview where it will be announced that he will be the lead in the new movie Starfield. So I first heard about this book on Tumblr. The author's daughter had made a post about when she was younger and realised that she started to have feelings for a girl at her school and had told her mum about it so her mum wrote a book about it so that other young people going through the same thing would have something to relate to. The main character, Maddie, starts to notice the new girl, Gemma, at school. Soon they are both cast in the school play, Romeo and Juliet and Maddie starts to realise that she likes Gemma as more than a friend. I like that the entire novel is a modern retelling of Romeo and Juliet except without the tragic ending. I really enjoyed the little nods to Shakespeare throughout the novel. The ice-cream store that Maddie hangs out with her friends is name Verona's the town where Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is set in. The shopping centre where Maddie goes to buy a dress for a school dance is called Mantuas, the town where Romeo is banished ...
