Read All The Books

This book much like the other two books in this series was so much fun! I didn't know much (read: nothing) about Calamity Jane so I really didn't know what to expect going in and I certainly wasn't expecting garou's but that's what makes this so good! All the characters in this were 'chef's kiss.'  I don't know who I loved more, Jane, Annie, Bill, Frank, George...even the bad guys were so bad that they were good. I love the fantastical spin they add to their stories, it makes for a really funny story and you definitely don't need to know the story or Calamity Jane going but it will certainly make you want to learn more about her after you finish this book.  Now while I have said twice already how fun/funny this story is, the best part of this book is the subtle way they show you that just because you are different to others, it doesn't mean you are any less valid than others. This novel is a loose retelling of Lady Jane Grey, the 9 days Queen and when I say loose, I mean loose. It was so unique and wonderful and hilarious  and just plain weird at times that you just can't help but fall in love with it. This is nothing like you would expect it to be and really hard to describe without giving away spoilers, but there are bits of history, bits of fantasy, bits of authorial intrusion and  a whole lot of humour. It will honestly have you laughing out loud! Set in the Elizabethan era, the characters have a surprising modern feel. I loved Jane and found her incredibly relateable which is strange considering we have nothing in common except a love for reading. The 3 authors do such a wonderful job not only making the characters likeable but also paint such a vivid picture of the landscape and story that I honestly felt like I had gone on a wonderful adventure in the country with some friends. This was a really fun quick read that is extremely relatable too.  A comic on the struggles of growing up to be a mature adult.  There is also a short self help guide towards the end for struggling artists that is quite motivating and I honestly think could be applied to not just artists but anyone who puts their work out there for the public.  The illustrations are charmingly adorable and had me laughing quite a bit.  This was my first comic from Sarah Andersen and I will definitely be picking up the other comics in the series! This novel was hilarious! Funny from the beginnig all the way to the end! It's about 3 best friends who travel to Florida to go to the wedding of the ex-boyfriend of the 'good' girl of their group who cheated on her to be with his current fiance. They decide to get revenge on the couple by playing a few pranks on the bride and groom leading up to the wedding but of course nothing goes to plan. It focuses mainly on the two 'bad' girls and is told from a dual perspective. Every chapter will have you laughing your head off, from panty flashing, butt stinging jellyfish to dominatrix strippers who like to take things too far. My favourite scene was definitely the duck scene (yes this book has ducks, just in case it wasn't amazing enough already). I laughed so hard I couldn't breathe during that scene.
